FILEAS FROG Fileas Frog Leaps into Literary Life!
Wigtown, Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland. After months of secret rendevous, electronic communications and whispered conversations, 'Fileas Frog' has finally leapt into life and revealed himself as the main character in a forthcoming children's book set for publication in 2008 to help raise funds for childrens' charities! The original idea for the book came about through a series of unlikely events, so far-fetched that the truth is stranger than the fiction. The plans were hatched in Wigtown, Scotland's national book town, and the wheels set in motion to spawn a collection of froggy tails in print. What is interesting is the fact that this book is being written by a group of virtual strangers with only one thing in common - eBid online auctions! Fileas Frog, so-named to represent each file that we 'File As Frog', leapt into the online auction limelight several months ago, when first offered as part of a charity auction to help raise funds for Bravehearts Childrens Trust. For a few pounds, the secret printed file changed hands and made its way across the Atlantic Ocean to Sulphur Springs in Arkansas. Had it not been for the most incredible coincidences occuring, the book may have folded there and then, but literary miracles do happen, and this could certainly be one of them. On publication, all profits from the sales of the books will be donated to Bravehearts Children's Trust, who grant wishes for chronically sick and terminally ill children. Writing continues from now until autumn 2008, with writers eBidding for the chance to submit a 'chapter' by way of a short story about Fileas Frog and his adventures whilst in their 'care'. It is also believed that the book will be illustrated, although an image of Fileas Frog has not yet been released. Owing to the unusual nature of this writing project, no participating eBid writer will be privvy to the entire contents of the book until the point of publication. Aspiring writers should take note that it is not too late to get involved in this amazing project, as bidding will continue until the book has been completed. This is a really exciting project and even we were stunned by the amazing coincidences that were brought to light when the file was returned from Arkansas. It was so unbelieveable that weeks were spent researching the findings to ensure there had been no mistake. The Arkansas writer was totally stunned when the extent of the coincidences were revealed. As the file, known simply as 'Frog', continues its journey from writer to writer through the eBid online auctions, the book is steadily unfolding and the project growing in popularity. Each time the file passes hands another few pounds are raised for charity and the story grows. It is believed that four writers and at least one illustrator have already contributed to the book, but it remains to be seen how far this literary project will go - could Fileas Frog go around the world via eBid? Who knows? This is a game of leap frog with a solitary file flying by mail to each writer who wins the right to write and, in so doing, play a most important part in this unusual fundraising event. Fileas Frog has already left Wigtown, but will be back in all his glory for the official launch of the children's book.
